FarmPride™ Quality Assurance

Landcorp Farming has developed and implemented FarmPride^TM Quality Assurance as a programme for ensuring best-practice throughout its farming operations and for adding quality assurance to its products.

FarmPride^TM was initiated in the mid-1990s as Landcorp recognised increasing levels of interest among processors and end-consumers in product safety and quality, animal welfare, farm management practices in general and environmental sustainability. The programme is recognised by the major milk and meat processors who are Landcorp's key customers and is subject to regular review in consultation with them. FarmPride^TM has become a critical means of linking farm operations to market requirements and, ultimately, to the demands of international consumers.

FarmPride™ helps Landcorp to promote a culture of continuous improvement in all its activities. The programme has practical guidelines and processes on topics that include: environmental responsibility and sustainability; product quality; animal welfare and health; agrichemical use; and customer satisfaction. In doing so FarmPride™ is central to enhancing Landcorp’s farming assets. Farm Managers and staff are required to:

• maintain accurate on-farm records and "trace back" capabilities on animals and products;
• monitor inputs and outputs; and
• undergo training to maintain the knowledge and skills needed for best practice.

Landcorp uses external auditors to ensure that all farms are eligible to maintain FarmPride™ accreditation. Audits are undertaken biennially and the process is reviewed by a FarmPride™ audit committee of Landcorp senior managers. This audit process integrates well with the Company's Work Safe programme by maintaining safe and tidy facilities on-farm.
