Dairy Graduate Programme

In recognition of the increasing complexity of milk production and an industry wide need for well educated and skilled professionals, Landcorp offers two places on this programme to enthusiastic graduates with a passion for success and excellence in dairying.  The successful applicants will be based on either Landcorp’s Weka or Cape Foulwind dairy complex on the West Coast and will report directly to the respective Farm Business Manager.  The programme provides the opportunity to gain the skills and training to accelerate into dairy farm management and offers remuneration on a par with other agribusiness professionals.

The Dairy Graduate appointments will initially be at Dairy Production Manager level but will include practical experience in a range of roles.  There will also be an opportunity to shadow a Dairy Farm Manager at varying times throughout the seasonal dairy farm cycle.

Landcorp is renowned in the agricultural industry for the training opportunities it provides to employees.  This programme offers career development through a number of  business and leadership courses run by highly respected facilitators, and technical training leading to AgITO qualifications.

We recognise the importance of on the job training and the programme also offers ongoing mentoring and coaching from senior managers in such areas as business planning, feed budgeting, compliance, and asset inventory, as well as involvement in operational projects.

The programme includes a number of visits to the corporate office in Wellington for induction and various high level strategic and business management meetings.  There will be quarterly meetings with the Graduate Review Team who will provide guidance to achieve KPIs and personal objectives.

The ideal start date for the programme is 1 February, but a date in January may be possible if both graduates prefer this option.  The programme concludes on 31 December and graduates are then expected to remain in Landcorp employment on one of the West Coast dairy complexes for at least a further calendar year.  It is envisaged this will be a permanent appointment at Farm Manager level, but is subject to satisfactory performance during the Dairy Graduate Programme and a role being available.

To be considered for this programme, applicants need a recent tertiary qualification, with preference given to diploma or degree graduates, especially those who have completed dairy papers; and a minimum of 12 weeks practical dairying experience in New Zealand.  To apply for this programme click here.
