Hon. Jim Sutton
Chairman
CNZM.

Mr Sutton joined the Landcorp Board on 1 August 2006 as chairman. Originally farming on his own account on a sheep, beef and mixed crop property in South Canterbury, he became Member of Parliament for Waitaki (1984-90). He subsequently represented Timaru (1993-96); Aoraki (1996-2005) and was on the Labour List (2005-06). He has been Minister for Trade Negotiations, Agriculture, Forestry, Biosecurity and Rural Affairs. Since then he has served as a roving Trade Ambassador for New Zealand and is currently the Patron of the Russia New Zealand Society.

Warren Larsen
Deputy Chairman
CNZM, BBS, CA, CMA, MAgSc(Hons), FNZIM, AF Inst D, DSc(Hon).

Mr Larsen was appointed to the Landcorp Board in May 2006 as Deputy-Chairman. He is a Principal in Larsen Consulting Ltd, Chairman of CentrePort Ltd, and a director of Air New Zealand, Jenkin Timber Ltd, Alpine Energy Ltd and NetCon Ltd. He was formerly Chief Executive officer of, respectively, Bay Milk Products and the New Zealand Dairy Board and was closely involved with the creation of Fonterra. He is an alumni of the INSEAD Business School and has had significant international business and marketing experience, particularly in the pastoral export industries.

A W (Bill) Baylis
M.Comm (Hons) FCA, FNZIM, AF Inst. D.


Mr Baylis was appointed to the Landcorp Board in November 2009. He is currently Chairman of Blackhead Quarries Ltd, Real Journeys Ltd, Dairy Holdings Ltd and Scales Corporation Ltd;and is a director of Port of Tauranga and several other companies.  He has held a number of appointments in the agricultural sector and is currently Chairman of the Accreditation Board of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. He has practised as a Chartered Accountant, as a principal in KPMG and its predecessor firms from 1969, and from 1992 in his own account until 2010. 

 

John Brakenridge

Dip Hort (Lincoln), MBA

Mr Brakenridge was appointed to the Landcorp Board in May 2011. He is CEO of New Zealand Merino Co Ltd. His experience and passion spans a number of areas in the primary sector including horticulture in both a strategic capacity and in international marketing for Cedenco Foods in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1999 he was awarded the Marketer of the Year Award at the TVNZ/Marketing Magazine New Zealand Markets Awards. He has completed executive education at, and has an ongoing affiliation with, the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in the USA. In October 2010 he was winner of the Outstanding Leader Category at the NZTE International Business Awards. He is an active member of the Synlait Innovation Advisory Committee and until recently was an appointed Member of the New Zealand Government Primary Growth Partnership Panel.

 
 

Traci Houpapa

JP, MBA.

 

Ms Houpapa joined the Landcorp Board in May 2010. She co-owns THS & Associates Ltd, a Hamilton based consulting firm providing professional advice in strategic and business planning and organisational development to public and private sector clients throughout New Zealand. Her other directorships include Strada Corporation Ltd and Pemberton Construction Ltd. She is Chairman of the Federation of Maori Authorities, a trustee for a number of Maori authorities and community groups and a Crown appointee on the National Advisory Council on Employment of Women.

   

Marise James
CA, Nuffield Scholar.

Mrs James is a Chartered Accountant, appointed to the Landcorp Board in April 2003. She is a partner in a New Plymouth-based accounting firm and has directorships in Ikan Property Ltd, TSB Bank Ltd, Farmers Mutual Group Ltd, Farmers Mutual Finance Ltd, Staples Rodway (Taranaki) Ltd and the NZ Institute of Highway Technology. She is a trustee for the TSB Community Trust. Mrs James has a broad background in the dairy industry first as a sharemilker and then as a farm owner; and she was a board member of Dexcel Ltd and the Fonterra Cooperative Group Ltd.

Jane Mitchell
BAgSc (Massey), M Prof Studs (Lincoln), Nuffield Scholar.

Ms Mitchell was appointed to the Landcorp Board in May 2009. She has extensive experience in primary industries. Over the last 25 years she has owned and leased farms in Marlborough and Central Otago, farming sheep, beef, deer, and small seeds. She also has interests in the aquaculture, fishing and wine industries. She has held a number of appointments on farming industry bodies. Ms Mitchell is a qualified soil conservator. She is a Sport Otago Trustee and former member of Otago Polytechnic Council.

Basil Morrison
CNZM JP.

Mr Morrison joined the Landcorp Board in May 2008 and has had significant roles in both central and local Government. He is Chairman of the Local Government Commission. He has been President of Local Government New Zealand, is a past Chairman of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum and was an elected member of the Ohinemuri County, Hauraki District Council (as Mayor) and Environment Waikato. Currently he is a director of Civic Assurance, Chairman of MANZ Dairying Co Ltd, Chairman of the NZ Local Government Superannuation Board of Trustees, a member of the Waitangi Tribunal, the NZ Conservation Authority and the NZ Geographic Board. Mr Morrison farmed on his own account for 22 years and is a director and shareholder of Waiuta Farms Ltd.
